Alexander (Cecil) Pedlow, BDS (died 9 November 2019, aged 85)

Born in Lurgan, Cecil was educated at Campbell College, Belfast before studying dentistry at Queen’s, graduating in 1957. Although Cecil had a successful dental practice and played international level squash and tennis, it was rugby that he was best known for.
Cecil was a regular centre or wing on the Irish national team, winning a total of 30 caps. His career highlight was being selected for the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa in 1955. Cecil scored eight tries during the tour, including one against the Springboks.
Cecil married Kay and settled in Belfast, working as a dentist, and they had two children. His passion for sport never diminished and in 2017 he was inducted into Queen’s Rugby Club’s Robbie Moore Hall of Fame.
