QUEEN’S HOSTS SERIES OF TALKS TO MARK 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PARTITION OF IRELAND

A series of public talks organised by Queen's University Belfast, entitled “The Partition of Ireland: Causes and Consequences” will take place during 2021 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Partition of Ireland.
The series is supported by the UK and Irish governments, and by the Royal Irish Academy and the British Academy.
In each online talk a leading academic will address a major theme. Subjects covered in the series include the:
- Complex origins and legacies of partition
- Experience of minorities
- Irish border in literature
- Global dynamics of Irish partition
- Class-based and gender-based dimensions
The talks reflect expert analysis from a variety of perspectives, reflecting the inclusive approach adopted toward the marking of this important anniversary. Contributors include:
- Alvin Jackson, Richard Lodge Professor of History at the University of Edinburgh
- Mary Daly, Professor Emerita in Irish History at University College Dublin
- Marianne Elliott, Professor Emerita and former Director of the Institute of Irish Studies, University of Liverpool
- Diarmaid Ferriter, Professor Of Modern Irish History in University College Dublin
- Roy Foster, Professor of Irish History and Literature at Queen Mary University of London
- Brendan O'Leary, Lauder Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania
- Fearghal McGarry, Professor of Modern Irish history at Queen's University Belfast
- Jennifer Todd, Professor Emerita in the School of Politics and International Relations 2007-2018, UCD
- Paul Bew, Life Peer and Emeritus Professor of Irish Politics, Queen’s University Belfast
- Graham Walker, Professor of Political History at Queen's University Belfast
- Marie Coleman, Reader in Modern Irish history at Queen's University Belfast
- Margaret O'Callaghan, Reader in Politics at Queen's University Belfast
- Henry Patterson, Emeritus Professor of Politics at Ulster University
- Diane Urquhart, Chair of Gender History, School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queen's University Belfast
The first talk will be aired in April 2021.

The series will be recorded and produced by the BBC and will feature a wide range of expert speakers and perspectives. The series will be available via the University website and BBC platforms.
