Meet Queen's new PVCs

16 October 2015

Queen's new Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellors (PVCs) are now in post. Professors Elliott, Price and Scullion will play a critical role in leading  Queen’s on its journey to become a world-class university.

Professional services teams have also been established within each Faculty. Finance, HR and Student Recruitment Hubs are now located in Faculty Offices while the other professional services have aligned staff to support each Faculty.

Professor Adrienne Scullion (left) is the new PVC for Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS). Professor Scullion joined Queen’s from the University of Glasgow where she held the James Arnott Chair in Drama. With over 20 years’ post-doctoral experience, she is research active in the arts and humanities, specifically in Theatre Studies.

Speaking recently, Professor Scullion said: “My plans are to challenge my colleagues to deliver a really ambitious agenda – to deliver in disciplinary areas, to deliver in our very exciting global research institute, and also to find ways to make sure we are identifying and growing new talent, to create a culture that is innovative and smart, and that is creative, ambitious and outward looking.”

Professor Scullion is a theatre historian with expertise in theatre in Scotland and ongoing research interests on women theatre makers, theatre for children and young people and cultural policy, especially national and regional policies and provision.

Professor Mark Price (middle) takes up the post of PVC in Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS). A Queen’s graduate, he was previously Head of School in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering before taking up the post of PVC.

Commenting on his role, Professor Price said: “We have many excellent strands of research in individual disciplines and our big drive is to bring those together and form integrated multi-disciplinary research that reaches out right across the globe.”

Professor Price’s research interests are in the analysis and design of airframes, and design automation. He has a record of high quality international publications, with an ethos of undertaking fundamental research and subsequently using this to address industrial needs, and develop advanced technology solutions which impact industrial practice, working with local and international companies.

Professor Chris Elliott (right) was the first Director of the Institute ofAgri-food and Land Use at Queen’s and founded the Institute for Global Food Security in 2013.

His main research interests are in the development of innovative techniques to provide early warning of toxin threats across complex food supply systems. Protecting the integrity of the food supply chain from fraud is also a key research topic and he led the independent review of Britain’s food system following the 2013 horsemeat scandal.

As the new PVC for Medicine, Health and Life Sciences (MHLS) Professor Elliott wants to deliver ‘real global impact’. “Vision 2020 is incredibly important to our University and we are already working very hard at boosting our research programmes, attracting students from all over the world in what is an incredibly exciting time," he said.

The three Faculty Offices are located at 71 University Road (AHSS), 6 Malone Road (EPS) and 73 & 75 University Road (MHLS).
