Alumni engagement and philanthropy

Dr Elizabeth Audrey Graham (nee Alexander), died August 2015 aged 90.
Extract from appreciation from Dr Graham's sister, Joan Russell.

My sister Audrey came up to Queen's in 1943, having had her education at Victoria College, where she developed her life-long love of French language and literature and was Head Girl.

She was the first of our family to attend a university and she set us a dauntingly high academic standard. In 1950 she married Matthew Graham, who because of his war service coincided with her in the QUB  graduation of 1947. Sadly he died in 1978. They had 3 children, Kenneth, Rosemary and Helen, all of whom in due course became graduates, two of them at Queen's.

Although Audrey's post in the Medieval French department was on a part-time basis, she devoted herself whole-heartedly throughout her long career on Queen's staff to the work and to her students and was sad to see Medieval French becoming an expensive luxury at the university. She was a life member of the Queen's Women Graduates' Association.

Audrey was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
