Obituary by Jane McNutt (daughter)
Donald (Don) McNutt died on 25 March 2015 at the age of 82. He studied biology at Queen’s University and graduated in 1953. He went on the following year to get an honours degree in agriculture and agricultural zoology.
Don loved travelling and after Queen’s he studied tropical agriculture for a year in Trinidad. He then got a job with the colonial service in Uganda specialising in pest control in coffee. He met his wife Pat there and their 3 children were born in Uganda.
They returned to the UK in 1974 as the situation in Uganda was becoming unstable. Don retrained as a teacher and taught science and RE at Cabin Hill prep school in Belfast until he retired. After retirement his travel bug returned and Don and Pat went to teach at a secondary school in Malawi for 3 years with the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
Throughout his life Don always had a keen interest in Malawi and Uganda. He loved gardening, walking and learning new things. He was doing his advanced driving course and learning Spanish. He remained very active until he died and is much missed by family and friends.
