Applications open for Jean Crawford Cochrane Scholarship awardLanyon Building with image of Jean Crawford Cochrane bottom right

The Jean Crawford Cochrane Scholarship is now seeking applications from women undertaking a degree course at Queen’s.

Launched in 2016 to support an undergraduate student over three or four years, depending on the recipient’s degree pathway, the scholarship is worth approximately £1,500 per year.

Preference will be given to women normally coming from the post-primary education system in Northern Ireland, with a household income of less than £20,000. They must also have a place on the first year of a full-time undergraduate degree course at Queen’s.

This scholarship has been made possible by the legacy of Jean Crawford Cochrane. An active member of Queen’s Women Graduates and a passionate supporter of women’s education, Jean championed female students throughout her career – as a teacher, head teacher and representative of the National Association of Head Teachers.

The scholarship seeks to encourage women to further their education through an undergraduate degree course at Queen’s, by providing an opportunity which may have been previously unavailable to them due to financial constraints.

It was set up in her memory by Frances Grant – a close family friend and executrix of Jean Crawford Cochrane’s estate – through a deed of variation of Jean’s will.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 24 February (12noon).
