Annual Fund dispersal
18 December 2014
The Queen’s Annual Fund Dispersal Ceremony held on Wednesday, 17 December was an occasion enjoyed by all. Donors, supporters and University staff attending the event met over 75 students who were there to receive support for their student-focussed projects.
At what was the second such event of the year (the first took place in February) the Annual Fund recognised 35 projects that will enhance the student experience across the campus and beyond. Each initiative will receive a share of the £58,500 that was raised - thanks to alumni generosity. Furthermore, the Queen’s Annual Fund will be directing £29,250 towards an endowed scholarship and a similar amount to support a specific project within the University’s current fundraising campaign.
Addressing a packed Council Chamber, Norma Sinte, Director of Development and Alumni Relations at Queen’s, said: “This is one of my favourite annual events as it enables all of us in the Development Office – and our donors – to see the real impact of philanthropy.
“Those receiving certificates come from across the University community, representing all that is great about Queen’s, including sports clubs, cultural societies, Students’ Union projects and a number of staff initiatives.”
Singled out for special mention were the students who telephone alumni around the world during the 6 week calling campaign. Ms Sinte continued: “The success of Queen’s Annual Fund is down to the commitment and professionalism of our student callers. I would like to thank them for their positive spirit and tenacity and for representing today’s student body so well to those whose footsteps you follow.”
Since the Annual Fund was launched in 1999, over £2.2m has been donated by graduates, made up of over 36,000 gifts from more than 5,000 donors. Each year, Queen’s Annual Fund callers speak to around 6,000 alumni catching up on graduate memories and updating them on life at the University today.
A video summing up the Fund’s most recent achievements was shown, followed by the presentation of certificates. The evening was brought to a close with a request from Natasha Sharma, Annual Fund Manager, to those present to spread the news of the Queen’s Annual Fund, so that it could, through the generosity of alumni donors, continue to make a huge difference to the lives of students.
