Congratulations to the Class of 2014!
Over 4,000 students will graduate at 13 ceremonies – including for the first time, two ceremonies on a Saturday – at Queen’s Summer Graduation Week 2014. With thousands of parents and guests attending the formalities in the Sir William Whitla Hall and the afternoon garden parties in the Quad, the campus will certainly be buzzing from now until 9 July.
The ceremonies will be the first to be presided over by Professor Patrick Johnston, who took up the post of President and Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s earlier this year. Formerly Dean of the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences at Queen’s, Professor Johnston took over from Sir Peter Gregson as the 12th Vice-Chancellor in the University’s 168-year history.
During the 6 days of ceremonies, the University will also award ten honorary degrees to business leaders, world-renowned academics and figures from popular music and cinema.
Keeping up with recent tradition, the Development and Alumni Relations Office will once again be on the lookout for the finest turned out graduates of the week. Each day, the Best Dressed Graduate will win a one-year subscription to Ulster Tatler Magazine, with the overall winner also picking up a bottle of Duval Leroy Champagne! Sign-up to the University’s online graduate community to see a selection of the Best Dressed Class of 2014!
Those wishing to do so can watch the ceremonies live online or can catch up with them later once the proceedings have concluded.
Social media is the most immediate place to keep up with what’s happening and the University has created a special #QUBGrad hashtag for those using Twitter and a dedicated photo section on Facebook. So don’t miss out, get involved in the conversation!
And once graduation is over, the Development and Alumni Relations Office will help keep graduates in touch with the University and each other through regular events, publications and opportunities to remain involved with campus life. The Class of 2014 – and Queen’s graduates of all previous years – are invited to ‘sign up’ to keep their contact details up-to-date and to make sure they are well-informed of the latest news from their Alma Mater.
